Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has revealed, on Friday (31 August), that his feat of hitting 6 sixes in an International match was inspired by Sir Garfield Sobers on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of an iconic achievement - smashing 6 sixes in 6 balls in First-Class cricket.

50 years ago on 31st August, West Indian great Sobers treated the fans while playing for Nottinghamshire by becoming the first man in First-Class cricket to strike six sixes in an over. On the other hand, Yuvraj Singh was the first one to hit six sixes in International T20 cricket.

The 36-year-old achieved the iconic feat during the ICC T20 World Cup when he hit England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes in one over in 2007.Yuvraj moreover felt that it was unfair to compare his achievement with that of the legend. 

Yuvraj sent a WhatsApp message to The Telegraph, which reads, “Sir Garry's feat clearly was a pioneering moment. To hit 6 sixes in 6 balls is incredible. That we're talking about it 50 years later just shows the impact that one over and one cricketer had.”

The Punjab all-rounder signed off, “I recall watching footage of Sir Garry's achievement and having the urge to replicate his feat. My moment came in 2007 (in the inaugural World T20, against England's Stuart Broad). It's a record I will forever cherish.”

Yuvraj, who is out of national colors for over a year, is currently in the United Kingdom (UK) and spending time with his wife and in-laws at the moment.
