Former Pakistan cricketer Asif Iqbal has lavished praise on Indian Captain Virat Kohli and even went on to compare his captaincy skills to one of the greatest cricketers of all-time –Imran Khan.

The 29-year-old dashing right-hander loves to stand tall while facing extreme challenges on the field whether be it with the bat or leadership and Iqbal claimed that every team should also have a player like Kohli to create a thrilling atmosphere on the ground.

At the moment, Kohli is playing against England in the five-match Test series, where he has amassed 440 runs so far and his 200 runs in the third Test helped India to make a sensational comeback in the series.

Former Pakistan skipper also said that Kohli’s captaincy reminds him of Imran, who won the mega event for Pakistan in 1992 and created history, as well as saying that  the Delhi lad has all the qualities to become a successful captain.

Iqbal told Xtra Time on Thursday (30 August), “I think you need players like Virat to draw people to the cricket grounds. The most important thing is that he is producing results as a captain. Imran Khan led from the front. He performed consistently and demanded same commitment from his team-mates. I can see a similarity between Virat and Imran. Virat too performs and commands respects from his team-mates. He has all the qualities to become a successful captain.”

He signed off by saying that Kohli deserves to be at the number one position in the ICC rankings and called his performance in the ongoing Test series ‘phenomenal’.
