Having seen Black Caps head coach Gary Stead express willingness at his first press conference earlier in August for roping in additional coaching staff to provide guidance for the betterment of the T20Is side, former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming has said that he is open to the idea of joining in and give insight expertise in order to accomplish this ambition.

Fleming has made a name for himself as one of the most popular T20 coaches doing the rounds. He has been doing the role for arguably the most successful T20 sides in the world, Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and was involved with Melbourne Stars in the BBL too.

Amongst the former cricketers that Stead listed out, Fleming is one of them.

Regarding the matter, Fleming was quoted saying, "My offer is open and it doesn't have to be a formal role, It's more on passing on IP [intellectual property] that I've picked up through tournaments ... I would like to think there's a number of voices Gary could turn to if the team needed or wanted that help."

"It depends on when and what it looked like. We play so few T20Is. It would be worth it. If it's one or two games, you're better off boxing on as it is."

The target is to see New Zealand become the best T20I side in the world by winning the ICC World T20 2020 in Australia and this is why the Kiwis don't want to leave any stone unturned in their planning and preparation.

Fleming further talked about the role and said, "If those discussions come up we'll certainly look at it. I'm very proud of this team and I'll certainly do what I can to help."

"He(Stead) was a great guy to play with and a very good team-mate," he said and added, "The relationship between [captain] Kane [Williamson] and Gary is the most important one to develop and if they get on pretty well, hopefully, they'll take the team even further forward."
