VVS Laxman and Shoaib Akhtar set for coaching stints in UAE T20 League

The UAE T20x is set to be inaugurated with a bang later this year.

VVS Laxman and Shoaib Akhtar have been included in Elite list of coaches that have signed up with UAE T20x.

Organisers for the upcoming Emirates Cricket Board backed UAE T20x have announced an elite list of former cricketers who will be performing the important role of coaching the various participants.

For the league inaugurating in December this year, former India internationals VVS Laxman, Robin Singh, Venkatesh Prasad and Sanjay Bangar have all signed up to give their services and expertise to various competing franchises.

The list includes Pakistani greats like Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Ajmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis too, while Sri Lankan veteran Chaminda Vaas has put his name forward for being roped in as a bowling coach when the auction and draft for UAE T20x take place.

On this great development for the league, Zayed Abbas, board member at the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), was quoted saying, "The coaching roster we are currently building boasts some of the sport’s best former players and career coaches and is another clear demonstration of our commitment to not only showcase emerging talent but to provide them with a high standard of competition and world-class coaching that will help develop their individual game,”

Interestingly, the league has been set-up in a way to ensure four emerging and junior players are selected in each team along with three Associate member players and three national UAE cricketers. Every team will have a chance to feature five international star players and one international "Icon" too.

South African great AB de Villiers, who recently retired from all-formats at the highest level, has been confirmed as tournament's non-playing global ambassador already.
