Salman Sarwar Butt, chief executive of the upcoming UAE T20 League, wishes to have Steve Smith and David Warner featuring in the much anticipated inaugural edition of the competition this year.

The league which is backed by the Emirates Cricket Board(ECB), has the ambition to try and develop the sport further in United Arab Emirates and this, people like Salman feel, should attract the players of caliber which two brilliant batting veterans from Australia are.

“We are in contact with their agents. There is a positive indication but we need to wait and see, We’d love to have them on board. Steve and David are obviously great international players and well known around the world,” the CEO was quoted saying.

Warner and Smith have been banned by Cricket Australia for their involvement in the ball-tampering incident earlier this year in South Africa but the duo, alongside Cameron Bancroft, were given NOC's to take part in the cricket not organised by the game's governing body in Australia.

According to this, Smith and Warner, both played in the Global T20 Canada League in July. One of the main attractions to sign for GLT20, especially for Smith, was the development of the game in USA which the league was actually aimed at.

The other reason why organisers of the UAE League are being hopeful, is that the duo isn't allowed to take part in this year's Big Bash League either.

The UAE T20 will run from December 19 to January 11, overlapping with the Big Bash League (BBL).

Salman was further quoted saying, “I’m pretty sure they (Smith and Warner) would love to play and contribute to the development of cricket, Our league is unique because it helps the global development agenda. We already have access to some very exciting talent from more than 35 associate countries. We really hope Cricket Australia help us with our development agenda,”
