Having restricted the Guyana Amazon Warriors for a modest total of 140, St. Lucia Stars found themselves in a spot of bother, as the game hung in balance at the end of the 17th over in the run chase.
Facing the table-toppers, the Stars needed a morale-boosting and campaign-saving win in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League but they had to somehow score the 31 runs required in the remaining 18 balls.
They needed their best players to step up to the plate and out came Kieron Pollard to seal the deal in his side's favour. Pollard can so often come across as an enigma but there is no doubt that he is a match-winner in big games and tough situations. His exploits in must-wins and finals for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League is a prime example.
Here Pollard got going straight away. He absolutely smashed Devendra Bishoo in the 18th over and brought his side 6,6,4,6,4,4 in the space of six balls to level the score. St. Lucia needed their Stars to step up and they got the beast unleashed. Not many sides can withstand the storm that Pollard in his full flow is, not even the top-ranked and in form sides like Guyana in this instance.
Pollard would be mighty pleased to have contributed so significantly to his side's much-needed win.
The highlights of Pollard's blistering knock can be seen in the video posted by CPL's official Twitter handle here.
