Cricketer-turned-minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was attacked by critics for his visit to Pakistan for Imran Khan's oath ceremony. What sparked the fire was his controversial hug with the Pakistani army chief and him sitting next to the PoK president.

Sidhu spoke in his defense that his visit has nothing to do with politics, but a warm invitation from an old friend. He also added that former prime minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also traveled on the bus to Lahore and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an unscheduled trip to Lahore in 2015, on his way back from an official visit to Afghanistan.

Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has also come out in support of Sidhu. "It was great to see Navjot Singh Sidhu in Pakistan for PM Imran Khan oath ceremony. I really hope that his warm gesture is accepted wholeheartedly. Peace is the only way forward for both countries. Both nations need to spread message of tolerance. Such steps will reduce tension," he wrote.

Afridi has been very vocal about making peace with India. He had earlier said that celebrities from both countries should take it on themselves to maintain a good relationship.
