South African pace spearhead Dale Steyn could face another stint on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury during a County Championship match for Hampshire on Monday (20 August).

He couldn’t complete his 11th over against Nottinghamshire at Southampton as the injury forced him to leave the field immediately.  The club has confirmed that Steyn suffered a groin injury and level of the injury will be assessed on Tuesday (21 August).

The 33-year-old has had a nightmarish run with injuries over the last two years. However, the pacer made a comeback on the recently-completed Sri Lanka tour, in which they played two-Tests and he managed to take only two wickets in his comeback to international arena.

Steyn achieved a milestone in Sri Lanka as he equalled Shaun Pollock as South Africa's all-time leading wicket-taker with 421 scalps in Test cricket.

Noteworthy, Steyn picked up a serious shoulder injury during Australia tour in November 2016, which kept him out for most of 2017 before a heel problem sustained in his comeback test against India in February 2018 sidelined him once again.

His bowling average of 22.42 is slightly better than Pollock’s average of 23.11, as Steyn achieved the feat in 87 Tests while Pollack took 108 matches. Steyn picked up  243 wickets in 47 home Tests while he picked another 164 in 36 away Tests.
