James Anderson | GettyIndia captain Virat Kohli, who had become the no.1 ranked Test batsman in ICC rankings just over a week ago, thanks to his stupendous 149 and 51 against England in the first Test at Birmingham; has lost his position to Steve Smith after the innings and 159-run loss to England at Lord’s.

Kohli managed to score 23 and 17 as his side collapsed to 107 and 130 all out.

However, Ravichandran Ashwin moved up in the list for batsmen from 67th to 57th, with defiant innings of 29 and 33 not out. He also left Vernon Philander behind to become the third-ranked all-rounder in Tests.
