MSK Prasad led selection panel likely to continue in the new BCCI

CoA may consult the CAC to add a couple of more selectors to the existing panel.

MSK Prasad along with fellow selector Sarandeep Singh and captain Virat KohliMSK Prasad led selection committee and the selectors are all set to continue till the elections to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This comes from close sources to the BCCI and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and they have indicated to Mumbai Mirror, that despite the new orders from SC, this selection panel will continue to work.

In fact, two more selectors might be brought in, if needed. Supreme Court in its order on Thursday restored the five-member panel for senior, junior and women’s teams and changed the criteria for appointing the selectors. There were speculations that the CoA will replace the selection panel, as they have been authorized to decide on the panel in consultation with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).

CoA may consult the CAC to add a couple of more selectors to the existing panel of three. “That is an option they have. The decision will be on the expansion, not on the changes,” said the source.

Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjpe are already on the sidelines having had to sit out because of previous criteria which allowed only Test cricketers to be the selectors.

A meeting will take place for finalizing the constitution of the BCCI which will be sent to the registrar of Tamil Nadu Societies. The judgment is based on Article 142 which empowers the court to register the constitution of a private body, a request made by the CoA in one of its previous status reports.

After the registration, the states will have to register their own constitutions and hold elections following which the election to the BCCI will be held. The process may take close to three months.
