CAC comprised of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman could be disbanded in new BCCI

The new BCCI constitution has strict guidelines on conflict of interest.

The current CAC of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman was appointed in 2015Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will undergo fresh changes, after the Hon. Supreme Court greenlit the new constitution. This also empowered the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to make appointments in Indian cricket. However, with the new and fresh changes waiting in the BCCI, the CAC itself could be changed.

The current CAC comprising of legends Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman were last appointed by the Anurag Thakur-led BCCI in 2015, and have played a big role in the appointment of new coaches for the Indian team.

Under the new SC order, the power to appoint the five-member men's national selection committee is now given to the CAC, instead of the BCCI officials.

Clause 26(2)A(ii) of the new constitution as per the order reads, "The Men's Selection Committee shall consist of five persons to be appointed by a Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of reputed former international cricketers identified by the BCCI at the Annual General Meeting."

The court has also tasked the CAC with choosing Head coach of each national team - men's, junior and women's. Clause 24 (5) as per the order reads, "The Head Coach of each of the national teams shall be appointed by the Cricket Advisory Committee."

BCCI officials admit each of the legends currently in the committee may have to step aside under the conflict of interest guidelines, once the new BCCI constitution takes force.

Sourav Ganguly is the President of Cricket Association of Bengal and likely to continue in administration. Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun is now an India age-group cricketer and VVS Laxman is the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

The order does not clearly set any criterion for CAC membership but with conflict of interest guidelines firmly imposed across Indian cricket spectrum, the legends themselves may not want to be involved in new controversy.
