Veteran Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty on Saturday (August 11) lauded former India captain MS Dhoni for his contribution towards Indian cricket. Shetty believes there is no captain in cricket who has a vision like Dhoni and also labelled the Ranchi lad as the 'God of cricket'.
"I want that he should never retire from cricket. He is the God of cricket according to me and even after retirement, his stature will go up,” Shetty said while speaking at an event, as per the quotes of Times Now.
“It is a matter of sadness that MS Dhoni will retire in a few years. I think that he should always play for India because no captain has a vision like him. You look at thousands of captains and Dhoni will choose the right person at the right time,” he added.
Shetty’s statement is justified since Dhoni’s achievement as a captain is surreal, to say the least. He is the only captain in the history of cricket to have won all the three ICC trophies – 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy.
MS Dhoni has also led India to the pinnacle in Test cricket and has captained Chennai Super Kings to three IPL titles and two Champions League trophies.
Meanwhile, Dhoni, who has called time on his Test career in December 2014, recently cleared the air over his retirement speculations from limited-overs cricket.
During the third ODI against England last month, Dhoni had asked the umpire for the match ball which kicked off speculations over his future. However, he put all the rumors to rest by saying that he wanted to show the ball to the bowling coach in order to understand why the bowlers could not generate reverse swing.
“(I took the ball) to see why we are not able to get enough reverse swing. Because we will be playing the World Cup in England, we have to (ensure) that we get the reverse swing going. Because it is something that is very important. If the opposition is getting it, we should also get it, at some point or the other,” Dhoni told PTI earlier this week.
