South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis is all set to miss the remainder Sri Lanka tour owing to a shoulder injury. The Proteas side are still to play three limited-overs (2 ODIs and 1 T20I) matches in the island nation.

Du Plessis sustained the injury on his shoulder during his team’s third ODI against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Sunday (August 5). He hurt his shoulder while diving for a catch and took no further part in the match.

"Faf sustained an injury to one of the rotator cuff tendons in his right shoulder and will unfortunately be unavailable for the rest of the tour," team manager Mohammed Moosajee explained the injury in Cricket South Africa’s media release.

"He will need a rehabilitation period of up to six weeks to make a full recovery," he further added.

The visiting Proteas side have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. While Pallekele will host the penultimate ODI on Wednesday (August 8), Colombo will stage the final ODI and the solitary T20I on Sunday (August 12) and Tuesday (August 14)
