Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is likely to undergo a surgery for his finger injury that has been bothering him for a while. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials on Saturday, August 4 have confirmed that the Test and the T20 skipper is likely to have surgery for the injury that he sustained during the tri-nation ODI series involving Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka at home in January.

Shakib has been playing with a lot of pain during the ongoing tour of Caribbean. According to Cricbuzz, BCB's chief physician revealed that Shakib had to take painkillers to participate in the ongoing T20 series against West Indies to ease the discomfort caused by the injury and that they are trying to manage the injury with conservative treatment and rehabilitation, but during this time frame, he has had to take two anti-inflammatory injections.

Physician Debashish Chowdhury was quoted saying, "He had been given the anti-inflammatory injection as the pain recurred but once he returns back home we can take a better look at him and decide his next course of action,"

"It is the second time he is taking such an injection as he had taken that in Australia where he went immediately after the injury. Though we have seen in some cases, sportsmen can manage their injury with such medication but the problem arises if it is repeated often as the steroids do have some side effects. If he might need an operation then he will be out for at least six weeks,"

Shakib, who is one of the best modern-day players in the world, has been a veteran of Bangladeshi Cricket for a very long time. He is still the most important player in his team's eleven.

After returning home from the Caribbean, Shakib will be discussing with the board to decide the right date to conduct the operation. He might miss a few International assignments for the long-term benefit of his and Bangladesh cricket too.

Bangladesh will play the Asia Cup in September and follow it up with home series against Zimbabwe and West Indies. It is learned that the chances are high of him opting out of the series against Zimbabwe.
