After facing a lot of criticisms and questions on their ability to produce a decent enough performance in the subcontinent South Africa finally opened their account. The victory in the first ODI to a great extent has set the tone for the series. The Proteas have a potent bowling line-up and Sri Lankan batsmen struggle against quality pace as well as spin. It will thus become an interesting battle and determine the flow of this five-match ODI series. Though there was not a lot the pitch did in the 1st ODI but the Sri Lankan batsmen were flummoxed by a charged up Kagiso Rabada who ran through the top order and pushed them on the back foot early on. Sri Lanka will have to show a lot more maturity along with better commitment and application in this game for the outcome to be different.

Best economical pick – Tabraiz Shamsi picked up four wickets to set up South Africa's five-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the first ODI.Rabada, who took 4-41, inflicted the early damage while left-arm spinner Shamsi provided the late breakthroughs with his 4-33 as South Africa bundled out Sri Lanka for 193 under 35 overs

Top captains & vice captains – Kusal Perera was the star of the Sri Lankan innings in the first ODI, hitting 81 with 11 fours and a six and took a special liking for the spinners as he swept and reverse-swept them with confidence. He will be the key man for Sri Lanka. A limited-overs specialist, JP Dumniy made his presence felt in his first game of the tour by hitting a rapid half-century after coming in to bat with South Africa needing 77 runs. He provided the knockout punch with six fours and two sixes, and will be an integral part of the South African middle order.

Smart pick – Upul Tharanga has been a fulcrum of the Lankan batting lineup for over a decade now, having also played with the likes of Sanath Jayasuriya, the former Lankan batsman. With an experience of 224 ODIs, the 33-year-old veteran now will be required to step up for his side. The visitors have a formidable bowling lineup and the team would be hoping for the experienced player to score the runs and guide his team.

Cautious Pick – South Africa won the first ODI quite comfortably and most things fell in place but they have a major concern. It is the form ofHashim Amla, once the most consistent batsman in this line-up Amla is now struggling to get runs in his favourite country. He was dismissed by Akila Dhananjaya in the previous encounter failing to read a googly and his stumps were off the ground.

My XI – Kusal Perera (Captain) JP Duminy (Vice-Captain), Upul Tharanga, Niroshan Dickwella, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Akila Dananjaya, Tabraiz Shamsi, Thisara Perera, Quinton de Kock
