Smriti Mandhana created history in Kia Super League as she scored the joint-fastest fifty in women's T20s. The left-handed opener scored an unbeaten 19-ball 52 runs in a rain-affected 6-overs per side game.
Mandhana ensured her side put up a safe total to win the game. Usually, batters come out with a set mindset to attack in these type of games which makes any target vulnerable.
The 22-year-old reached her fifty in just 18 balls and her side Western Storm finished with 85/2 on the board. In reply, the Loughborough Lightning didn't lose any wicket but still couldn't chase the target. They finished with 67/0 from their six overs. Storm win the match by 18 runs. With the win, they are second in the points table.
Mandhana was also awarded the player-of-the-match award for her stunning knock. She now has 11 sixes in the tournament, the most by any women in the history of the tournament in any season.
She had also smashed a half-century in 25 balls for India against England in March to go past her own 30-ball 50 record.
The Indian T20 star has also been a part of Women's Big Bash League where she played for Brisbane Heat. Mandhana was picked as the captain of IPL Trailblazers in the one-off exhibition game organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India against the IPL Supernovas in April.
First Indian to be signed in Kia Super League, Mandhana is surely the player to watch out throughout the tournament. Her debut was also impressive where she scored 48 from 20-ball against Yorkshire Diamonds in a successful run-chase.
