Reece Topley to undergo back surgery

Left-arm fast bowler Reece Topley will be going through a surgery on his back after having fought battles with its stiffness for a while. The promising youngster has been missing from the domestic and international scene for a substantial period of time due to various injuries on his body.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Topley, who was diagnosed with a recurrence of a stress fracture earlier this month, will have a pin inserted in his lower back during the procedure at Wellington Hospital, just next to Lord's. If his rehabilitation progresses well, he hopes to be fit to play not long after the start of the 2019 English domestic season.

Topley, who plays for Hampshire domestically, now faces an uncertain future. He has been going through injury issues for a very long time now and is highly unlikely to see his contract being renewed by the county.

Topley is rated very highly around English Cricket and has played 10 ODIs and six T20Is for the three lions.
