BCCI set to allow WAGS to stay with players for 14 days

The decision was taken bearing in mind the past events, where the WAGS were held responsible for team’s miserable performance.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently urged the Indian players to stay away from their wives and girlfriends (WAGS) for the first three matches of the forthcoming five-Test series.

The decision was taken bearing in mind the past affairs, where the WAGS were held responsible for team’s miserable performance in any series or tournament.

In order to eradicate any such problem amidst the tour in future, the BCCI has come up with a regulation as per which, the WAGS will be allowed to stay with the cricketers for a period of 14 days; two weeks after the start of a tour.

“In the event of 45-day tour, the BCCI did not want a fixed slot for the WAGs. It may or may not suit all of them. So, we’ve decided that the ladies can join their men for any 14 days during the tour after the first two weeks,” a source was quoted as saying by The Mumbai Mirror.

Given that the WAGS of Indian players have already spent time with them, it is improbable that this law will be put into practice from the on-going series against England.

Meanwhile, Team India’s solitary warm-up match before the all-important five-Test series against Essex ended in a draw on Friday (July 27).

The first Test of the series will kick off on August 1 at Edgbaston. Lord’s (Aug 09-Aug 13) will stage the second Test while Trent Bridge (Aug 18-Aug 22), Rose Bowl (Aug 30-Sep 03) and The Oval (Sep 07-Sep 11) will host the third, fourth and fifth Test respectively.

India squad for first three Tests against England:

Virat Kohli(c), Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami
