Sri Lanka's ODI Captain, Angelo Mathews has said that every player in the side needs to abide by the strict rules that have laid out and that the team management won't "tolerate any indiscipline" by a player who is part of the squad.

Angelo made these comments specifically regarding opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka, who has been suspended for 6 games by Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) for breaching the "Player's Code of Conduct and Contractual Obligation".

The offense is said to be a serious violation of a team curfew during the course of the second Test against South Africa in SSC, Colombo. He was also officially reprimanded for the same. The Sri Lankan team management was left disappointed by the fact that his misconduct was related to an alleged "sexual assault" that occurred in the premises of the team hotel. In relation to the incident, the investigation team has arrested Sandeep Jude Selliah, the friend of Gunathilaka.

Ahead of the ODI series against South Africa, Mathews regarding the matter noted, "It is disappointing to lose out on a player, but we will not tolerate any indiscipline, If they take that risk they have to deal with the consequences, they can be the best player, but we will not tolerate that kind indiscipline. When it comes to team rules they have to abide by it. We do care what they do outside the ground because it affects the whole team and the image. Players have to be very careful to take good care of themselves on and off the field not try and damage the team's image,"
