Sri Lanka will look to continue the winning momentum when they take on South Africa in the first ODI at Dambulla on Sunday. Sri Lanka won the two-match Test series 2-0 and would look to continue the winning run in the five-match ODI series as well. South Africa would look to overcome the Test series loss and begin the ODI series in a winning note. Sri Lanka are playing at home and they know the conditions extremely well. They outclassed South Africa in the Test series 2-0 and will start favorites again in the ODI series as well. South Africa boast of few of the best limited-overs batsmen in Faf du Plessis. He will lead from the front in the ODI series after the Test series whitewash. They also have few quality limited-overs batsmen in Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, H Klaasen and David Miller who are match-winners on their day. Sri Lanka will start favourites in the ODI series as they are playing at home and have the requisite skills to do damage and whitewash South Africa in the limited-overs series as well. It will be a tough task for South Africa to avoid a series defeat.

Best economical pick – The 20-year-old South African batting all-rounder Wiaan Mulder made a big impression in the arm up match. Mulder resurrected South Africa during a mid-innings wobble with a coolly crafted 56 off just 57 balls, stroking eight boundaries in the process. He then went on to take 3/12 in just 4.1 overs of seam bowling.

Top captains & vice captains – Skipper Faf Du Plessis was the probably one batsman from South Africa squad who played the Sri Lankan Spinners quite well in the Test series. If South Africa wants to win the ODI series then their captain would have to lead from front. Occupying the vital number three slot, Kusal Mendis holds the key to the team’s batting fortunes. Not the one to rely enormously on foot work, his swift hand-eye coordination and uninhibited approach can place the opposition under immense pressure.

Smart pick – One of the most promising talents from the Sri Lanka, Dickwella is an explosive batsman at the top of the order. The southpaw, who dons the wicket-keeping gloves as well, got off to a couple of strong starts in the test matches. Needless to say, the Lankans will be banking on him to get the innings off to a flier.

Cautious Pick – South Africa’s future captain and superstar Aiden Markram failed totally in the test series and struggled a lot against Spin Bowlers. He will struggle again in the ODIs too, so be careful before trading him in your fantasy team.

My XI – Faf Du Plessis (Captain) Kusal Mendis (Vice-Captain), Niroshan Dickwella, Wiaan Mulder, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada,Akila Dananjaya, Tabraiz Shamsi, Thisara Perera, Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock
