Windies have won the second ODI in Guyana and thereby has level the three-match series 1-1. This loss left Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza dejected after they spilled a chance to register a chance to register a memorable away series win.
Jason Holder defended eight of the final over to help the Windies draw level in the series.
"It was disappointing to lose such a game when you need 14 runs in 13 balls with six wickets in hand and ended up losing the game. It is more disappointing because it is not the first time we have lost a game from such a position as it has happened on quite a few occasions," Mortaza said after the game on Wednesday (July 25). "I am not sure whether it is mental or technical because it is tough to describe it. If we required 20 runs from 12 balls then it is a different thing but when you need 14 runs from 13 balls and failed to do so it is hard to decide whether it is technical or mental" added Mortaza.
"Honestly speaking we are making the same mistake and I think we should have handled our nerves in a relaxed manner and ended the game with singles and twos."
Mortaza was especially disappointed with Mushfiqur Rahim not taking them over the line despite being set on 68. With Mahmudullah run out and Sabbir Rahman too falling in the end, it was required from Rahim that he finished the game with some sensible batting.
"I think Mahmudullah run out was costly as we could have ended the game earlier if he was around but at the same time the wicket of Sabbir Rahman was also crucial," the Bangladesh ODI captain said. "There was some dew as well, but suddenly ball was turning. In the last over we couldn't finish it off. The way they played was really good, but we should've been more clinical in our finish."
Mortaza even blamed the drop catches by his fielders contributing to their defeat. "Our fielding was not up to the mark, we dropped catches, conceded 24 doubles. We have one game to go and hopefully we can cover it up in the next match."
The series-deciding third ODI will be played at St Kitts on Saturday followed by a three-match T20I series to be played on July 31, August 4 and 5.
