Bangladesh once again proved that ODI format is their comfort zone as they defeated Windies by 48 runs in the first of the 3-match ODI series. The visiting side was well behind the Caribbean during the Test series but made the difference straight away after the change in format. The strategy of keeping as many wickets as possible till the end made difference for Bangladesh who scored 51 runs in the last 2.2 overs after missing out on scoring opportunities in the earlier overs. Windies’ inability of picking wickets in the middle overs was exposed as Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan strolled till the 45th over after an early wicket. They are expected to be a bit more aggressive with the bowling changes which they did in the first game. Windies also need either of the top order or middle order to take the things through. The hosts lacked one big partnership during the first ODI leaving too many runs to chase for their long tail.

Best economical pick – Shimron Hetmyer was the top-scorer of the previous match from the Windies camp. Hetmyer, who has played just 10 ODIs, will play a key role for his side. With hard-hitters like Gayle and Lewis at the top and Russell after him, Hetmyer provides solidity to the middle order. He scored 52 from 78, his first ODI fifty, and the Windies will want him to convert such scores into bigger ones.

Top captains & vice captains – Tamim Iqbal, well known for his attacking instincts and stroke-play, has got the ability to play out deliveries when required for the team. One such occasion was in the first ODI against the Windies. The Bangladesh opener batted out full 50 overs scoring an unbeaten 130 off 160 balls. Tamim brought up his fifty in 87 balls with four fours and a six. Tamim raised his century in 146 balls and added 30 more by end of the team’ innings as he scored 21 runs in the last five balls he faced. The Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan is among the finest all-rounders going around in all forms of the game currently. Shakib Al Hasan played another brilliant knock of 97 runs in the first ODI. But, he was unfortunate to have missed out on his century.

Smart pick – Mushfiqur Rahim belted 30 off just 11 deliveries in the first ODI which made a significant difference to his side's innings in the final overs. His late assault contributed to 43 runs being taken off the last two overs, the most productive ever for Bangladesh in their ODI history off the bowling of Jason Holder and Andre Russell.

Cautious Pick – Despite a big defeat, there is very less about which Windies could tinker towards their playing combination. All-rounderRovman Powell, who didn’t bowl an over and bagged a duck in first ODI, could be replaced with a specialist batsman.

My XI – Tamim Iqbal (Captain), Shakib al Hasan (Vice-Captain), Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Mashrafe Mortaza, Ashley Nurse, Mustafizur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Anamul Haque
