Banned by Cricket Australia for his involvement in the ball-tampering incident earlier this year, former Australian skipper Steve Smith will be applying his trade in another overseas T20 league while he continues to serve the12-month period out from the national team. Having played for Toronto Nationals in Global T20 Canda League, Smith is set to play in the Caribbean Premier League for Barbados Tridents.

Smith will be part of the squad that currently features International stars like New Zealand opener Martin Guptill, South African great Hashim Amla and West Indies allrounder Jason Holder.

The CPL tournament runs from August 8 to September 16, and will also feature fellow banned Australia batsman David Warner, who will play with St Lucia Stars.

In April 2018, Cricket Australia(CA) banned Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for their involvement in the ball-tampering incident during the Cape Town Test in South Africa and hence, despite getting NOC's for the Global T20 Canada League in Toronto, the trio can't take part in any CA organised cricket event before the completion of the period of ban.

To get some invaluable game time under their belt, Smith alongside Warner and Bancroft have been playing whatever cricket possible before they can make a return to the International scene at the end of Australian summer in  2019.
