Having played one of Test Cricket's most memorable knocks in recent times and amassing 356 runs across 2 games to help Sri Lanka whitewash South Africa, opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne has been rewarded with a huge jump in the latest International Cricket Council(ICC) player's rankings. 

The 30-year-old had scores of 158*, 60, 53 and 85 in a low-scoring series and has climbed three spots to number seven in the update.  Karunaratne stands at a career-high 754 rating points, 45 behind Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara.

On the other hand, Kagiso Rabada has lost his numero uno position to James Anderson after having a slightly less-fruitful series in Sri Lanka. Rabada, despite the unfriendly conditions on offer, inflicted 7 scalps in the first Test at Galle, but an average one-wicket outing across both innings in the second match at SSC, Colombo, cost him a few rating points, conceding the top ranking to James Anderson before the all-important five-Test series against India.

Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has gained five spots in the rankings for his 16 wickets in Sri Lanka and is now among the top 20 Test bowlers in the world. Off-spinner Akila Dananjaya, who picked seven wickets in the series, now finds himself at No.39 among bowlers and No.46 among all-rounders for some handy lower order runs. 

While, young Theunis de Bruyn's stellar 101 in the second innings at SSC has gained him 43 places on the batting table and he is now ranked 105th in the world.

As per team rankings, South Africa have lost 6 rating points from their 112 before the start of the series but are still the no.2 ranked side behind India which, according to ICC, will remain at the top even if they lose the upcoming Test series against England, 5-0. 

Sri Lanka, having gained some valuable rating points, are now equal to England but are just behind them in the rankings with decimal points.
