Danushka Gunathilaka, the Sri Lankan batsman has been suspended by the Sri Lankan cricket board after he was found breaching the code of conduct. A Norwegian woman accused his friend of raping her in a hotel room.

Gunathilaka and his friend took two Norwegian women to the hotel where the player was staying in Colombo in the early hours of Sunday. One of the women also accused a British passport-holder of Sri Lanka origin of raping her. He was later arrested by the police.

"The 26-year-old is under arrest and we are continuing our investigations,” a police official told AFP. “A Norwegian tourist made the complaint of rape.” However, there was no allegation against Gunathilaka.

Sri Lankan cricket board has strict rules to not have any guest during matches and the players should be at their hotel room by midnight. The cricket board will also “withheld Gunathilaka’s fee for the ongoing Test match until the outcome of the inquiry,” it said. Though, the cricketer was allowed to continue playing the second Test match against South Africa.

The 27-year-old has played 4 Tests, 33 ODIs and 15 T20Is for Sri Lanka. He has seven fifties and a hundred in the 50-over format.
