Windies cricket legend Brian Lara has been following the continuous growth of its regional cricket and is happy with its current shape and strength.

Recently West Indies B were soundly defeated in the final of the inaugural tournament on Sunday, after a Chris Gayle-captained Vancouver Knights registered a seven-wicket win to lift the trophy at King City.

Despite the defeat however, Lara saw the brighter side of things and said that he is happy with the way the regional cricket is on its way to development.

“It has been outstanding to see the outstanding play to see the performances of the teams.  Not many were expecting to see the West Indies B team in the final, but I think it just shows the strength of West Indies cricket at the moment,” Lara said ahead of the final.

“The A team is in England the international team is playing in the Caribbean, so these are guys that are good first class cricketers but not in the reckoning for the first 20 or 30 players in the West Indies,” he added.

The Windies B team, who lost twice during the six-team tournament, were the only team to defeat the champion Vancouver Knights.

With the Windies playing a positive brand of cricket in the Test arena recently, it might so happen that that couple of plays from the regional areas make a breakthrough into the team.

Windies drew the three-match Test series at home followed by a resounding 2-0 series win against Bangladesh who were totally decimated by the Jason Holder led side.
