Banned by Cricket Australia for his involvement in the ball-tampering incident earlier this year, David Warner is set to play some club cricket on home shores. The explosive left-hand opening batsman will be making his debut in the Northern Territory’s Strike League in Darwin and will play two matches for City Cyclones.

The former Australian vice-captain was recently seen playing for Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Canada League in Toronto, as he was granted NOC by the CA to play the competition that isn't organised by the board.

Warner isn't allowed to play any first-class, List A and Big Bash League cricket in Australia till his 12-month ban finishes at the end of next home summer and so, he is trying to do as much possible towards being in shape and keep himself cricket-fit. In the GLT20, he didn't get going at all and averaged just 13.63 across eight innings, falling for single digits six times.

Warner will now be seen playing against Northern Tide at Marrara on Saturday, July 21 before facing Desert Blaze, for which Cameron Bancroft plays, on Sunday, July 22.

Bancroft, who was also banned for 9 months, has played 6 games in the tournament so far, scoring 155 runs at an average of 25.80. Meanwhile, Steve Smith, who also took part in the GLT20 and spent some useful time in the middle for his 167 runs at 33.4, will play for Sutherland at the start of the Sydney Grade season.
