South African left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi who earlier opted out from the team due to personal reasons has rejoined the squad again. 

"Shamsi's always been a part of the squad," Keshav Maharaj said. "Something happened in his family and it was unforeseen, but he's back and he's ready to go."

Shamsi's return means, if South Africa opt for two specialist spinners, the chances of uncapped legspinner Shaun von Berg making his debut have reduced.

Shamsi who was the only one who performed well for South Africa at Galle where they were humiliated by Sri Lanka demonstrated the consistency many felt he may lack in Test cricket. South Africa lost the first Test by 278 runs but Shamsi impressed in the outing with figures of 3 for 91 and 1 for 37.

South Africa were stunned earlier by Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle. This is after they won their last two Test series first against India and then against Australia in one of the most controversial Test series to be played ever. If they win the decider against Sri Lanka in Colombo they will do very good to draw the series after a rather embarrassing defeat in the first Test.
