ICC has delivered its verdict on the charges leveled against Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal, coach Chandika Hathurusingha, and manager Asanka Gurusinha for their actions during the St. Lucia Test against the West Indies. The three have been suspended for the first four ODIs along with both the Tests against South Africa.

Dinesh Chandimal, Hathurusingha, and Gurusinha pleaded guilty for pleaded guilty to a level three spirit of cricket offense, over their roles in delaying the start of play for almost two hours on day three of the St Lucia Test amid a ball-tampering row.

The independent Judicial Commissioner, The Hon Michael Beloff QC handed out the verdict, which gave eight suspension points to the trio. They had pleaded to Level 3, Article 2.3.1, which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game” and was charged by ICC Chief Executive David Richardson on 19 June.

During the hearing, it was mutually agreed that, since the minimum sanction for a Level 3 offence was suspension from two Tests, the three will not participate in the Galle Test (played from 12-14 July) and Colombo Test (to be played from 20-24 July), and these will be credited against the sanction imposed by the Judicial Commissioner.

The Judicial Commissioner’s decision means the three will also stay suspended for the Dambulla ODIs (29 July and 1 August) as well as the Kandy ODIs (5 and 8 August).

Six demerit points were also added to the records of Chandimal, Hathurusingha, and Gurusinha.
