Former New Zealand cricketer and one of the game's greatest ever, Sir Richard Hadlee is going through battles against health issues these days. The great man was diagnosed with a bowel cancer recently and has undergone an operation to remove a tumour after a routine colonoscopy in May.

Now the news that has saddened New Zealand's greatest cricketer's lovers around the cricketing globe is that he will undergo a second round of surgery after cancer spread to his liver.

Dianne Hadlee, his wife provided an update on the 67-year-old's condition on Monday, July 16 issued a statement which read, “This week, Richard will undergo further surgery after secondary cancer was discovered in his liver, the Medical advice is that it's still at a very early stage and is operable.”

Born on 3rd July and knighted in 1990 for services to cricket, Sir Richard Hadlee played 86 Tests and 115 one-day internationals for New Zealand, taking 589 wickets and is arguably the greatest cricketer of his generation. The former chairman of the New Zealand board of selectors was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009 and was also chosen as the second greatest fast bowler of all time by Wisden in 2002. We all wish for his speedy recovery.
