Mixed fortunes for Warner and Smith in Global T20 Canada League

After being banned by Cricket Australia for their involvement in the ball-tampering saga, David Warner and Steve Smith must have felt relieved having received NOCs from their home board for the ongoing Global T20 Canada League in Toronto.

The duo would've been much more pleased if their on-field performances would've gone in line with the ambition of getting some good cricket under the belt. They have had mixed fortunes so far.

David Warner's tough run in the tournament has continued, where having sent into bat, the Winnipeg captain got caught at short fine leg off the first ball he faced from Pakistan's 7 footer paceman Mohammad Irfan.

His early dismissal means he has now scored just 12 runs in the five innings he's played since the final Test in South Africa earlier this year. Since arriving in Canada, the 31-year-old has scored 1, 4, 1, 6 and 0.

On the other hand, Steve Smith continued his decent touch, where his unbeaten 55 wasn't enough to stop his Toronto Nationals from falling to tournament leaders West Indies B. The former Australian captain's second half-century of the competition, off 43 balls, included five boundaries and two sixes. Smith came in on the third over and almost immediately lost fellow opener Johnson Charles, but combined well with Anton Devcich (21) and Darren Sammy (23).

Both Warner and Smith are playing this competition to stay in shape, as they strive to play as much cricket as possible before making a return to the International game next year.
