Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA) has made a statement according to which they oppose the International Cricket Council's idea to limit player participation in T20 leagues around the world. In ICC's recent meeting in Dublin, the full members discussed the idea to cap the number of T20 leagues a player can participate in, because of the continuous compromise that International Cricket is having to go through but now, the FICA feels and fears, that it'll affect the growth of the game.

In a media release issued on Wednesday, July 4, FICA stated, "International cricket needs to be strong and attract the best players. Establishing an appropriate balance between the two is critical for the future, Cricket's focus should be less on restricting players from playing where they are valued and more on positive measures to ensure an attractive system including in relation to scheduling, economic models and the creation of world-class environments. The movement of players is a fundamental aspect of growing and developing the game globally in both existing and new markets"

"FICA is further concerned at reports following the ICC meetings that blanket regulation is to be introduced to restrict players to playing in three T20 leagues and believes that any arbitrary restriction is likely to constitute a restraint of trade in most countries. Any regulations should be designed to minimise the likelihood of successful legal challenge."

If the ICC and respective boards have it their way, the instances like several big players - Sunil Narine, Kieran Pollard, Darren Bravo and Andre Russell - choosing Pakistan Super League over the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe earlier this year, can be avoided and it can only benefit the game at the highest level. Country vs Country has to remain the pinnacle of our sport.
