After missing out on the last Test match against Sri Lanka, Windies batsman Shimron Hetmyer has returned to the Test squad for their upcoming Test matches against Bangladesh whereas Keemo Paul who had replaced him has also retained his spot in the team. The only player to miss out from the squad is uncapped reserve-wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton.

Alzaari Joseph, who clinched four wickets in their warm-up game against Bangladesh was also not selected for the team. Hetmyer was forced out from the team due to his illness. He had also not featured in the first two Test matches but had a tremendous performance against Bangladesh in the warm-up game. He had scored 123 runs in the match.

The West Indies selection panel "expects to see a greater effort from the top 5 batters and see them return to the focus and discipline we know they are capable of in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. After some very competitive cricket against ICC 6th ranked Sri Lanka that ended in a one all draw. We congratulate the team on a drawn series but recognized that victory was within our reach. The Selection panel also acknowledge and commend the strong performances of captain Jason Holder, Shannon Gabriel and man of the series Shane Dowrich."

Bangladesh who are currently ahead of Windies in the Test ranking has a very good chance of beating Windies and going up in the Test rankings. The first Test will be played in Antigua from July 4, while Kingston will host the second and final Test starting on July 12.
