Tainted Australia cricketer David Warner's struggle in the ongoing Global T20 Canada League has continued as he made only 4 runs off 6 deliveries while playing for Winnipeg Hawks against Vancouver Knights on Sunday (July 1). Warner’s team also lost the match to Knights by 6 wickets at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground, King City.

After being put into bat, Winnipeg made 156-9 in 20 overs. Warner was the first batsman to get out, caught by Rassie van der Dussen off the bowling of Sheldon Cottrell. Tion Webster was the stand-out performer with the bat for the Hawks as he made 49* runs off 34 balls (1 four and 5 sixes).

In reply, Vancouver chased down the target with 14 balls to spare. Hong Kong batsman Babar Hayat smashed 65 off 33 balls, including 3 fours and 5 sixes. Rassie van der Dussen was another contributor with the bat for the Knights as he scored 39 runs and saw his team home along with Andre Russell (21 runs off 7 balls).

Warner was bowled by Montreal Tigers’ Lasith Malinga for just 1 on his return to professional cricket on Friday (June 29). Warner is currently serving the 12-month ban from international cricket after he was found to be the chief instigator in the ball-tampering plot at Newlands in March.

Besides Warner, CA had also issued severe punishments on former Australia captain Steve Smith and the rookie opener Cameron Bancroft. While Smith, who is also featuring in the Global T20 Canada League for Toronto Nationals, was suspended for 12 months, Bancroft was barred from international cricket for a period of 9-month.

Warner’s next game for Winnipeg is against the Toronto Nationals at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground, King City on Monday (July 2).
