It degrades the cricket covering community when some platforms compromise with the quality of their content in search of eyeballs. Recently, Steve Smith's picture of having a drink in a pub was shown in a very poor manner by various news reporting associations that connected this with the extremely emotional ball-tampering scandal and also tried to inflict impression that the former Australian skipper is careless of his country's ongoing fortunes on the field of cricket, where they lost the ODI series to England 5-0.
This has now come under the scanner of the Australian media, who has taken a strong stand against such platforms after one of them reported the picture of Steve Smith in a pub with the title, "Disgraced Smith a sad sight in New York."
A News Corp report read, "While his former teammates were being embarrassed by the arch-enemy in England, the one man who might have been able to save the Australian cricket team was forlornly nursing a beer in a dingy New York bar,"
Smith is currently in New York, as the starting date of Global T20 Canada League that is due to be played in Toronto comes closer. He'll be playing for Tronto Nationals in the three-week long tournament but is also involved in charity work with the organisation, Gotcha4Life. Smith has found support from his mate Gus Worland for the charity that is mainly aimed for Community service which is an important part of his strive for character building in the aftermath of the ball-tampering scandal.
Worland revealed the actual truth behind that pub picture, when he told Triple M’s Grill Team that, "He’s been doing some work with Gotcha4Life with me and my foundation and talking to school kids, being really honest and vulnerable and talking to these boys, I know that he’s saved lives doing that. I know that 100 percent for sure. As everyone knows, and we joke about it on here, Hugh Jackman is my best mate, he is on the board of Gotcha4Life and Jacko was concerned for him"
"He’s a cricket lover and he loves Steve Smith so when Steve said he was going to New York I set them up. They’ve met a few times and Jacko loves the bloke and is really helping him and I don’t think you get many better mentors than Hugh Jackman in his life. The fact that he’s wondering around and scoping out real estate, he’s in no position to go and spend any money in New York especially in those areas at the moment"
Worland further explained how bad he feels for the way this picture was reported, when he said, "He’s just a young bloke in New York by himself having a few beers, having a good time and hanging out with Hugh Jackman. Why are they having this crap on and having a double-spread (article)making him sounds as if he’s all sad his wife’s over the other part of the world and stuff? It’s just bad, gutter journalism for mine"
