Pakistan will be without the services of a designated fielding coach during the month-long tour of Zimbabwe after Darren Berry, who was recently shortlisted for the job, informed PCB that he won't be able to join the team before the Asia Cup in September. Berry was supposed to immediately take over the position that is now vacant due to the completion of Steve Rixon's contract at the end of the two T20Is against Scotland but he won't be able to.

According to reports, Berry is yet to complete his existing coaching commitments in Australia and so can't join the Pakistan setup instantly. The former Australian first-class wicketkeeper-batsman, who played for South Australia and Victoria, was recommended to Pakistan Cricket Board by the current head coach Mickey Arthur, for the crucial role recently and the PCB, it is learnt, responded faithfully.

Also, what went in Berry's favour were the issues that the previous fielding coach Steve Rixon had with the board. Rixon refused to renew his contract with the board and flew back home at the end of the tour to United Kingdom.

Rixon, it is reported, had major problems over the non-compliance of some of the clauses in his contract by the board. He is said to have even refused to come to the ground on the eve of the second Test at Headingley in England this June after his monthly salary was delayed.

Pakistan will be in Zimbabwe for the T20I triangular series, which also includes Australia, before taking on the hosts for a 5-match ODI series.
