The game of cricket in India is no less than a religion and thus the esteemed cricketers enjoy the near god-like status. While Sachin Tendulkar had Sudhir Gautam to cheer for him and India, MS Dhoni has Ram Babu and Saravanan Hari.

Similarly, India’s current skipper Virat Kohli’s stature is on a rapid rise as his ardent fans follow his every move with immense passion. Recently, one of Kohli’s superfan left everyone stunned by taking a mammoth journey from Chennai to Guildford in a doomed bid to meet his hero.

As per a report published in Surrey Live, Subrahmanya Siddaarth Turaga made the decision after he found that Kohli would be signing for Surrey County Cricket Club (SCCC) and playing at the Guildford cricket festival. Virat was scheduled to play in the match between Surrey and Somerset at Woodbridge Road on Wednesday (June 20).

Siddaarth was keen to catch a glimpse of Kohli at the game but an unfortunate neck injury prevented the superfan from meeting his idol.

"I like him because he brings that intensity into the game and gives 100% wherever he is. Him signing up for Surrey is an example of who he is. He wants to do well for his country and at the same time his aggressive nature might not do well for the team,” Siddaarth told Surrey Live.

"Actually he has won a lot and I look forward to him playing in England. I’d like to thank Chad for giving me this opportunity and the warm reception he gave me while I have been here. It was really nice of him to offer to help to a stranger and I almost got to meet my idol. There’s always a next time!" he added.

On Saturday (June 23), Virat along with his India teammates head off to the all-important UK tour. Considering Kohli’s batting feats in the last 5 years, there are plenty of expectations from him on this much-awaited trip.

Even though Kohli has conquered more or less every condition with his willow, he has not been able to perform at his best in England. With just 134 runs in five Test matches at a dismal average of 13.40, doing well in England is a top priority for the India captain.

In their UK tour, Team India will play two T20Is against Ireland in Dublin on June 27 and 29 before featuring in a limited-overs series (3 T20Is and 3 ODIs) against England from July 3. The five-match Test series between England and India will commence on August 1.
