Left-handed opener from Australia, Matt Renshaw has seen his county stint with Somerset end abruptly after the youngster sustained a fracture on the top of his finger. Renshaw got injured while playing against Surrey and as a result, will be immediately flying back home.

Somerset Head Coach Jason Kerr was quoted saying about sudden development as, "Matt sustained a fracture on the top of his finger, After speaking with Cricket Australia it has been agreed that he will return to Australia sooner rather than later. Sadly for us, that means it is the end of his time with Somerset this season."

Renshaw was outstanding for his county, amassing 513 runs at an average of 51.30. He perhaps has made a telling statement to the national selectors, as they look to build the Test side for next year's Ashes away from home in England.

Renshaw impressed everyone during the tour of India last year by how comfortable he looked against Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja before he got dropped from the team that played the Ashes at home. He was gutted and disappointed but was desperate to prove a point and he did via his stint in county.

Jason further said, "It's a huge blow to us because he has been brilliant both on and off the field, He fitted into the dressing room very well and a player of that calibre is going to be missed. However, it does create an opportunity for somebody else to come in and step up, so from that point of view it's quite exciting."
