Ahead of the Day-Night Test against West Indies at Barbados on Saturday (June 23), Sri Lanka has sent leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay home for disciplinary reasons.

As per the reports in Cricbuzz, a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official said that the bowler was axed for violating the contractual obligations after discussions between the tour management and the officials at home.

Reports also suggest that Vandersay and three other players had visited a nightclub in St. Lucia after the final day's play of the controversial second Test match. Apparently, the team management had lodged a complaint to the police after the leggie was found missing in his room.

However, Vandersay returned to the hotel some hours later. The 28-year-old had told the team management that he had lost his way as other players left him alone in the nightclub.

Sri Lanka’s tour to the Caribbean has been no less than a nightmare for the Islanders. After the first Test, Angelo Mathews ruled himself out of the tour due to the family issue while Lahiru Gamage is forced to go home owing to fracturing finger.

Following the drawn second Test in St. Lucia, ICC Match Referee Javagal Srinath had found Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal guilty of tampering with the ball. Subsequently, the ICC had suspended Chandimal for one Test and fined him 100% of his match fees.

Cricket’s governing body had also charged Sri Lanka’s head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and team manager Asanka Gurusinha of a more serious Level 3 offense, along with Chandimal for a conduct which is against the spirit of the game.

It is worth mentioning here that the Sri Lankan cricket team had refused to take the field for two hours on 3rd day morning in St. Lucia, as umpires changed the ball and awarded five penalty runs to West Indies.

Seamer Suranga Lakmal is leading Sri Lanka in the third Test at Kingston. The Windies are currently leading the three-match Test series 1-0.
