Indian-born Irish all-rounder Simranjeet Singh, is all set to play against India in the upcoming T20I series for Ireland. The 31-year-old all-rounder, who made his international debut for Ireland last year, always wanted to play against Virat Kohli and his brigade and finally, his dream is about to be materialized.

Ireland are all set to host Team India for a two-match T20 International series to be played on June 27 and June 29 respectively in Dublin.

Simranjit, who hails from Mohali a north Indian city had spent his early cricketing at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, representing Punjab at the U-14, U-17 and U-19 levels.

After that, things didn’t go well with the all-rounder, as he  was dropped from the U19 squad and then he decided to shift Ireland to find more opportunities in a bid to seem himself at the International level after his close friend Gaurav, who was then living in Ireland, proposed him the idea to shift to the country.

Simranjit, who is famous as Simi in the Irish team told Sportstar, “I lived close by, and every day I would make it a point to visit the stadium to play. That’s how it all started. That time, I thought the career had hit a road-block and I had to take a decision.”

For Punjab, he has played as a top-order batsman but since moving to Ireland, the all-rounder started focusing on spin bowling as the Irish batsmen have problems playing against spin.

He signed off by saying, “I would teach the youngsters how to tackle situations and teach them a bit of spin bowling and batting. After coming to Ireland, I discovered that here batsmen have problems against spin. There was a dearth of spinners, and that’s why I developed my spin bowling.”

Since making debut in 2017, Simranjeet has played seven ODIs and four T20s for Ireland.
