Virender Sehwag, Aakash Chopra and Harbhajan Singh back Rajat Sharma for DDCA President’s post

Former India cricketers Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra has come out in support of eminent journalist Rajat Sharma, who is contesting for the post of Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) President. The DDCA elections 2018 will take place on June 30.

Sehwag and Chopra, who have played as openers for India and the Delhi Ranji team, feel that Mr. Sharma is an ideal candidate for the President's post given his clean image and top-notch administration skills.

"DDCA elections are coming and I feel Rajat Sharma ji is the best candidate for the post of President because of the way he has led IndiaTV to success. He is a strong administrator. I feel he is very strong candidate. So, I am supporting him. He will bring fresh changes to DDCA for the betterment of the cricket body," Sehwag quoted as saying by India TV.

Expressing his support for Rajat Sharma, Aakash said: "The success of Delhi cricket lies in its administration. I feel if Delhi cricket is rightly managed and administered then nobody can stop Delhi cricket from going forward. Mr. Rajat Sharma is fighting for the post of the President and I am wishing him all the very best. Hope he wins and takes Delhi cricket forward."

Meanwhile, veteran India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has also conveyed his best wishes for the 61-year-old Sharma.

"Hi Rajat ji, I would just like to wish you all the very best for your upcoming DDCA elections," Harbhajan Singh stated.

Rajat Sharma's team include Rakesh Bansal who will fight for the post of Vice President, Vinod Tihara (Secretary), Om Prakash Sharma(Treasurer) and Rajan Manchanda (Joint Secretary).

The dates for the DDCA elections were disclosed last month by administrator Justice Vikramajit Sen, who also ordered that the polls will be held without the much-scrutinized proxy voting system.

The proxy system of voting which was deemed as the root cause of corruption in DDCA. Justice Sen released an 11-point model of code of conduct for the election of members of the executive committee.
