Shai Hope and Stafanie Taylor were declared as Windies male and female cricketer of the year, with Hope also winning Windies Test cricketer of the year and ODI cricketer as well. The sixth joint award ceremony was held in Barbados on June 20. Shai Hope has secured three awards recognised by (Cricket West Indies and West Indies Players Association).
In 2017, Shai Hope hammered 773 Test runs at an average of 45 with two hundreds and three fifties to become the leading run scorer of Windies in Test matches. Roston Chase was the second leading run scorer with 740 runs at a batting average 43.52.
Shai Hope also had a spectacular performance in ODIs for Windies as he scored 600 runs at an average of 33.33 with four half-centuries. Stafanie Taylor was the leading run scorer for the Windies women cricket, she scored runs at 32.9 batting average for her team.
Talking about the shortest format of the game, Evin Lewis was named the male T20 cricketer of Windies including his splendid century against India, while Deandra Dottin grabbed the female T20 cricketer award.
Windies are playing a 3-match Test series against Sri Lanka to which the home team is leading by 1-0. The last Test match will commence from tomorrow at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
