Ed Joyce, who represented Ireland and England at international level, announced his retirement from the game of cricket last month. He will put his call aside to play his last competitive cricket match for Sussex County Cricket Club on Sunday (24 June).

Sussex has arranged a T20 match against Ireland to honor Joyce for his service to the county side for which he played from 2009 to 2016, and captained from mid-2012 to 2015.

The fixture will be a part of the Ed Joyce Testimonial Year programme to be held at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground on June 24 (Sunday), as well as, the conclusion of the 2018’s Rathbones Arundel Festival of Cricket.

The 39-year-old stylish batsman was part of Ireland’s maiden Test match against Pakistan in Malahide earlier this month. Joyce played a total of 78 One Day Internationals (17 for his adopted country England) and 18 T20 internationals, only two for England. In 227 matches for Sussex, Joyce has scored nearly 12000 runs.

As per reports in Sussex’s official website, Joyce said, “I can’t wait to step out on the field one last time with Sussex at Arundel on Sunday. The opposition, of course, is my country, Ireland, and I know it’ll be a very tough game as Ireland have just come off four very competitive games in Antrim during the series against Holland and Scotland.”

He further added, “The game is part of my testimonial year and the two charities I’ve chosen to support are the PCA Benevolent Fund and Sussex Cricket Foundation. Both charities do fantastic work which I’ve seen first-hand.”

The Irish man signed off by saying, “It would be fantastic to see a big crowd at Arundel on Sunday to help raise funds for both charities. Looking forward to seeing you all there!”
