New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has signed a new deal with Kookaburra, an Australian sports equipment company, on Friday (15 June), as the Black Caps is all set to use once again the Kookaburra balls at Test cricket and First-class Cricket for at least three more years.

A year ago, NZC signed a deal with Kookaburra but they did not renew the deal after their agreement expired, experimented the Dukes ball used in England, which many swing bowlers prefer because it provides extra assistance to them.

Now, New Zealand has decided to use again the Kookaburra balls and according to the new deal, the Kiwis can’t use other balls until at least 2021 in both domestic and international cricket.

As per reports in Stuff Sport, NZC chief David White said, “Kookaburra have made a significant contribution to cricket in New Zealand at all levels. Their work at the grassroots level, in particular, deserves to be recognized and we thank them for their ongoing support.”

Meanwhile, Kookaburra's New Zealand general manager Jason Mills said, “Kookaburra has been really pleased with the way we've worked with NZC on concepts such as the pink ball and improving the ball for New Zealand conditions. The willingness from both parties to innovate and improve makes this a strong partnership. New Zealand Cricket has shown its progressive attitude to the game with its cooperation on any research and development projects we have undertaken.

Mills signed off by saying, “They should be congratulated for their openness to continuous improvement, and we look forward to some exciting projects ahead.”

Noteworthy, the red Kookaburra ball is used in the longest format of the game, while the white Kookaburra ball is used in one-day international cricket.
