Shannon Gabriel moves upto 12th position in the ICC Test Player Rankings for bowlers

Having played their first Test, players from Afghanistan have also been rewarded a place in the Test Rankings.

West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel has made a multiple rise from his previous position in the ICC Test Players Rankings to move to 12th position. Gabriel has been rewarded for his outstanding performance in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. His spells of 5/59 and 8/62 in the second Test at St. Lucia has allowed the West Indies to maintain their grip on the 3-match series with the home team leading by 1-0. Gabriel has reached 754 rating points while his previous best was 636 points and an 18th place in August last year.

According to the media release by the International Cricket Council, Gabriel's teammate Roston Chase as well as his captain Jason Holder, both have moved one place up to 38th and 64th position respectively. 

Their opponent for the series, Sri Lanka, has seen their own players climb up the latest rankings. Captain Dinesh Chandimal has moved upto 9th for his stellar batting form recently, alongside Kusal Mendis who has made the career-best jump to 12th. Among their bowlers, Suranga Lakmal has gained one slot to reach 29th position while Lahiru Kumara has gained three spots to reach 51st position.

Meanwhile, after India's historic Test against Afghanistan, Shikhar Dhawan and Murli Vijay have made a big jump in the rankings to 24th and 23rd place respectively. Dhawan and Vijay, both scored hundreds in the game. 

Ravindra Jadeja, having taken 6-35 in his team's one-sided win, is now 3rd in the ladder. Jadeja's teammates, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav have moved places to the 25th and 26th position respectively. 

Having played their first Test, the Afghanistan players to make an entry into the players’ rankings are Hashmatuallah Shahidi (111th) and captain Asghar Stanikzai (136th) among batsmen. Among bowlers, Yamin Ahmadzai (94th) and spinners Mujeeb ur Rehman (114th) and Rashid Khan (119th) are among those in the rankings. Rashid is currently top-ranked in T20Is and second in ODIs.
