Dale Steyn may have made a return to where he belongs but he is uncertain about his place in the South African eleven when they take the field in Sri Lanka next month. Steyn is making a comeback after various injuries to his body, which resulted in a very long layoff, and is desperate to set the scene on fire again but knows that the competition for a place in the side has only risen from when he last played.

Steyn knows that in Sri Lanka, where Proteas will be playing their 2 spinners, walking into a 2-man main pace attack won't be easy at all. South Africa have selected the fearsome quartet of Lungi Ngidi, Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada and Steyn himself, for this tour and only two of them are likely to feature in the eleven for the 2-match vigil.

Steyn was quoted saying to Sky Sports about this as, “Rabada is so special, Ngidi is coming through nicely, I just hope there’s a spot there for me when we get to Sri Lanka, In those conditions you’re always looking at possibly playing two spinners. It’s a good headache for the coach to have. But when you get the opportunity to represent your country, you go and make the most of it.”

Who would've imagined that South Africa's greatest fast bowler would reach a stage where he is, having fought his way through with injuries, isn't a sure starter in the eleven. It reflects the depth of quality fast bowling in the rainbow nation but also explains how all good things come to an end. Everyone wants Steyn to have a good end to his story.
