Sri Lankan batting great Kumar Sangakkara joined the list of former Sri Lankan players who have refused to join as the consultant for Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) on the plea by the Sri Lankan Sports Ministry.

Recently the SLC issued a statement requesting the former players of repute to suggest ways to improve the stagnating health of the game in the country but most of them, including the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Roshan Mahanama, Mahela Jayawardene, and now, Sanga have turned down the offer.

These giants have wisened up from the past, as SLC failed to put the recommendations that they had made previously to use and so, find joining in again a waste of time.

In a letter to the sports minister, Sangakkara has said that the former sports minister had also sought his assistance yet he wasted six months in an advisory committee as none of his recommendations were taken seriously.

Sangakkara had proposed important recommendations, which included amendments to the Sports Law and Sri Lanka Cricket Constitution but they never materialized owing to SLC.
