Former New Zealand captains Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori have pretty much ruled themselves out of the race to replace Mike Hesson as Black Caps chief coach. Fleming and Vettori are mentoring the Twenty20 sides in the cash-rich Indian Premier League and Australia's Big Bash League.

Hesson, under whom New Zealand attained the number one T20I rankings and played the final of 2015 World Cup, stepped down from the post last week citing personal reasons.

"I'm a massive supporter of the team and I'm there to help where needed but don't want to step on anyone's toes," Fleming, who was at the helm of Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2018 triumph, quoted as saying by New Zealand Herald.

"If they have a series where they want help or a view from outside, then I'd absolutely love to be part of the group. After 10 years of doing it [in the IPL], I've got some good white ball IP [intellectual property]. So it would make sense to pass that on at some point," he added.

On the other hand, Vettori feels that national coaching job is a huge commitment and he won’t be available for it. He is currently committed towards the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Brisbane Heat franchises in IPL and BBL respectively.

"I don't think I'd be available. I think it'd be a tough assignment for anyone [time-wise] but there's no doubt they have got a great group of players to build up towards a World Cup," Vettori said.

Reports in New Zealand Herald further suggest that former Kiwi speedster Shane Bond is an obvious candidate, having been shoulder-tapped to coach New Zealand A to the subcontinent last year. However, Bond is unlikely to give up his three-year contract for the Sydney Thunder.
