Australia's spearhead Mitchell Starc has put out a pointed statement replying to the report details on criticising the banned team players, comments on Steve Smith and David Warner as "out of context". Starc even said, he has utmost respect for both the players and their return in Australian cricket will mark a new beginning.
Cameron Bancroft was also suspended for nine months whereas Steve Smith and Warner are not allowed to play cricket for Australia's national team until next Match. Their suspension did not prevent them from playing domestic cricket around the world. Warner and Steven Smith were not allowed to take part in IPL this season as it was the decision of BCCI. All the three players are set to return on the cricket field with Global Canada T20 league and Darwin cricket league.
"Despite reports to the contrary, I continue to have the utmost respect for Steve Smith as captain, team-mate and friend and I look forward to having him back in our great game soon," "That goes for David and Cameron who have also been through an extremely tough time. It is good to see all three guys planning to be back in cricket soon in different competitions around the world.
"Rebuilding trust and developing a positive reputation will take time and through our actions, we hope to demonstrate this to cricket fans everywhere.
"The process has already started and the focus now should be on the cricket being played and the stories of performance and change in the current series, led by new Aussie coach Justin Langer, captain Tim Paine and the current team over in the UK."
Starc said there were lessons to be learnt from the Cape Town incident and admitted the national side must now focus on regaining the trust of the Australian public.
Starc feels the time has really come for Australian cricket to regain the trust of the general public. Australia are all set to play against England for 5 ODI match series. He even talked about the things which happened in Cape Town, feeling there are certain aspects to learn from the series.
"…fundamentally there are many things that we can all learn from recent events in South Africa," he continued.
"It was such a stressful time in our lives. There was strain on relationships both as individuals and as a team. However, the relationships of that group remain very much intact.
"I look forward to the opportunity to play alongside every one of my teammates from that tour again.
"We still have a long way to go in rebuilding the trust with the Australian public and I know personally, that I am 100 percent committed to doing that."
Mitchell Starc is injured and won't be taking part in the upcoming series against England, starting on June 13.
