The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has announced on Friday (June 8) the signing of Yere Goud and Sreenath Aravind as new coaches for the upcoming domestic season.

Aravind and Goud are all set to replace PV Shashikanth and GK Anil Kumar, who joined the stated body last year, guiding Karnataka to the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 final and the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017 title in the side.

As per reports in Deccan Herald, Sudhakar Rao, secretary, KSCA, said, “It was a unanimous decision and all the office-bearers felt we needed a change in the coaching system. Yere Goud has played more than 100 first-class matches. And he understands the system because he has coached the U-19 and U-16 teams. So we wanted to promote him. Arvind is very experienced. These days you need not have to undergo coaching programmes but experience matters.”

On Shashikanth and Anil Kumar's removal, Rao said, “It’s not like we have dropped them. They have done well and we will make use of their coaching abilities in the KSCA academy.”

It is learned that the Karnataka man Aravind, who announced retirement earlier this year, is expected to take up the role as bowling coach, while Goud is likely to work as batting coach for Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Goud scored over 7000 runs at an average of 45.53 for Karnataka and Railways in his 17-year long first-class career before hanging his boots in 2012. However, the right-hander never got an opportunity to represent India at international level despite decent success at the domestic circuit.

On the other hand, the left-arm seamer Aravind, who is known for his ability to bowl both left-arm fast and left arm spin, represented Karnataka in the 56 First-class matches and picked up 186 wickets at a brilliant average of 23.94. He also played 84 T20s and only one T20 International for India. The pacer also played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Noteworthy, the KCA is currently preparing for the historic one-off Test match between India and Afghanistan to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on 14 June.
